The first day for the Bridge Watch Program on location at Miawpukek First Nation in Conne River, N.L., took place last month
The training is an initiative of the Miawpukek First Nation (MFN) and the Marine Institute (MI); in collaboration with Mi’kmaq Alsumk Mowimsikik Koqoey Association (MAMKA) and Training and Economic Development (TEDD).
All student funding is through Skills and Participant Funding with Employment and Social Development Canada.
The seven-month program provides 12 students with a combination of theoretical and practical experience through a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on seamanship skills and three weeks of safety training at the Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) in Fox Trap, NL.
