The Marine Institute recently received the 2019 Educator Excellence Award from Food Processing Skills Canada
Food Processing Skills Canada (FPSC) presents this annual award to an educational institution that has established itself in educating the leaders of tomorrow in the food and beverage processing industry.
FPSC is a non-profit organization providing training courses, programs and educational tools for food and beverage manufacturers in Canada and around the world.
For the past three years, the Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development (CASD) and the Community Based Education Delivery (CBED) unit have worked closely with FPSC to conduct an assessment of factors impacting the utilization of technology and automation in the Atlantic Canadian seafood processing industry. This assessment played a key role in FPSCs larger Atlantic Canadian Seafood Labour Market Study, particularly with respect to how technology and utilization impact human resource dynamics in the industry. said Heather Burke, director of CASD.
“CASD has also been an active member of FPSCs National Advisory Committee for its “Raising the Skills” initiative to develop nationally accredited training programs for the Canadian food and beverage industry,” said Ms. Burke.
Ray Hayter, program instructor with CBED, accepted the award on behalf of the institute at a ceremony held May 24 during FPSC’s 10thAnnual Speaking Food Conference in Toronto.
Created in 2009, FPSC collaborates with governments, industry stakeholders, provincial associations and educators to support food and beverage manufacturers in human resources and workforce development.
