The knowledge and expertise at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is being further enhanced with the addition of the Institute’s first adjunct research scientist, Dr. Pingguo He
Dr. He is a professor with the School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and will team up with MI’s School of Fisheries through the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources (CSAR).
No stranger to MI, Dr. He was a Senior Researcher – Fish Behaviour and Fishing Gear at MI (adjunct to Memorial’s departments of biology and psychology) from 1989-2001. During that time he focused on courses and research related to fishing gear, fish behaviour, fisheries conversation and responsible fisheries.
“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Pingguo He back to the Fisheries and Marine Institute as an adjunct research scientist,” said Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute). “Pingguo was a valuable member of the Institute’s team for more than 10 years and I have no doubt that he will continue to make a meaningful impact through this new relationship.”
For the next three years, Dr. He will collaborate with Dr. Paul Winger, Director of CSAR and other scientists on research related to the conservation and sustainable use of marine fisheries resources. He will also provide guidance to graduate students and promote the facilities and expertise of MI, particularly CSAR and the flume tank.
