School of Fisheries Head to Co-Chair Seafood Value Chain Roundtable

Carey Bonnell, Head of MI’s School of Fisheries, to serve as the Industry Co-Chair of the Seafood Value Chain Roundtable (SVCRT)

MI faculty and staff continue to make an impact on their communities and the marine industry. They volunteer, serve as members of industry boards and associations and play integral roles within sector organizations both here at home, across the country and internationally.

Carey Bonnell, Head of MI’s School of Fisheries is the latest to take on a new volunteer appointment and will now serve as the Industry Co-Chair of the Seafood Value Chain Roundtable (SVCRT).

“I am honoured by this appointment and am looking forward to working with other leaders in the industry to grow and strengthen the competitiveness of our national seafood sector,” said Mr. Bonnell.

Mr. Bonnell is a longstanding member of the SVCRT. Building on his skills and experience, he will help move forward the SVCRT’s strategic priorities and work to foster collaboration between industry and government to benefit the Canadian seafood sector.

The SVCRT was formed in June 2003. It brings together leaders from across the seafood industry - retail, food service, processing, harvesting, trade associations and more. The SVCRT has focused on three key priorities: improving the image of Canada's seafood; enhancing the industry's ability to compete; and encouraging integrated government response to issues facing the industry.
