Self-directed learner Horace McPherson was drawn to the Marine Institute of Memorial University’s Master of Technology Management (MTM) program for its flexibility and accessibility
Having completed his degree via distance education, McPherson will be travelling from his home in Toronto, Ontario to St. John’s, NL to attend his convocation ceremony.
After searching for graduate studies in technology management within his own province and failing to find any that fit his personal needs, McPherson decided on Memorial’s Marine Institute.
“I needed a graduate degree that reflected my experience and expertise. The MTM really fit that profile as well as my busy work schedule and family commitments,” said McPherson. “Memorial University has the most competitive tuition fees amongst all the universities I researched and the cost of the degree was manageable.”
McPherson was thoroughly impressed with the program’s course line-up, program materials, knowledgeable professors and the challenge it presented. He acclaims the knowledge gained within the program to increasing his competency and proficiency in his career.
Currently working as a senior technology manager for the Government of Ontario, McPherson primarily works in the field of information and communications technology. He also leads a business unit that offers video and converged communications services to the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, Ministry of Community Services and Correctional Services, which includes the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Child and Youth Services.
“Technology Management studies have broadened my horizons in terms of becoming a thoughtful leader and innovator,” said McPherson. “I would certainly recommend the program.”
McPherson is intent on celebrating this significant life accomplishment at Memorial University. He plans on bringing his wife, two sons and mother to see him walk across the stage.
“Once I get my Master of Technology Management degree I will display it proudly,” stated McPherson.
