This October, the Marine Institute (MI) will be hosting two world-class conferences you won't want to miss!
Held for the first time in Canada, from Oct 15-17th, the International Association of Maritime Universities' (IAMU) Expanding Frontiers - Challenges and Opportunities in Maritime Education and Training Annual Conference will be hosted by MI at the Delta, St. John's.
Founded in 1999 by seven universities representing the five continents of the world, IAMU has become a world-wide network among maritime universities and faculties. This conference will unite students, members from all countries and universities worldwide.
Some of the frontiers that will be explored are training and research in harsh and ice-covered environments, evaluation of the demand and opportunities for trade and transportation, the human factor in Marine Education and Training (MET), and the new Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW).
The event is open to both IAMU members and non-members.
MI's Ocean Innovation (OI) Conference 2012 will be held the following week, from October 21-24th at the Sheraton Hotel, St. John's. This event will be held in partnership with the International Association for Safety and Survival Training (IASST) to bring practical, hands on experience to the conference.
The focus for the tenth annual OI conference will be on Extreme Survival: Innovations in Training, Knowledge and Equipment. The event will bring together internationally recognized researchers, regulators, policy makers and innovators with the expertise to explore the state of the art in training, knowledge and equipment: the tools of safety and survival in extreme ocean environments.
