Marine Institute and Memorial University alumni will have the chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues and reminisce on their time at the university at havin' a time: Reunion 2012. The five-day event, happening Aug. 8-12, will be Memorial's first ever all-year, all-faculties and all-campuses reunion
"Memorial alumni in Newfoundland and Labrador, across Canada and around the world, have a strong connection to their university," said Dr. Gary Kachanoski, Memorial's president and vice-chancellor. "For the first time in our history, we're setting the stage to bring them all together to relive, rediscover and make new memories. It will be a time to remember."
There are more than 70 events planned at Memorial's St. John's and Grenfell campuses and the Marine Institute, including a series of showcase events, edu-tourism adventures, a speaker series, a wide range of activities presented by individual faculty and school groups, family-oriented activities and The Wicked Memorial Variety Show at Mile One Centre, featuring live bands, comedy, guest hosts and much more.
Volunteer committees made up of more than 150 Memorial alumni, friends, faculty and staff are overseeing the management and execution of this large-scale event.
"This reunion will not only be fun, but also worthwhile, creating a foundation and legacy for the future," said Valerie Ludlow, honorary co-chair of Reunion 2012. Reunion 2012 festivities will begin with a kick-off on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and culminate with a closing celebration on Sunday, Aug. 12. Grenfell activities will take place Aug. 8-10 and Marine Institute activities will take place Aug. 9-11.
"I am thrilled to be part of this exciting initiative," said Earl Ludlow, honorary co-chair of Reunion 2012. "I encourage all alumni, near and far, to join us as we have fun celebrating all things Memorial."
