MI kicked off its first I Love MI MUNdays festivities today in fine style
Well, if you consider pajamas to be in style.
The first event of the week long celebrations, the breakfast bazaar, saw faculty, students and staff, clad in their favorite pj's, enjoy a home cooked breakfast with all the fixings. Followed by a success round of Minute to Win it, the celebrations are off to a great start.
Today's festivities cap off with the Marine Institute's Student Union (MISU) hosting the first ever MI Idol at 6:30 pm in the student lounge.
There are still plenty more events to get your hearts racing. On Friday, October 21, break out your neon clothing, leg warmers, shoulder pads, oversized sweatshirts, acid washed jeans, and high top shoes because MI is going back to the 80's. While the fashion of the 80's was not always kind, help MI celebrate Kindness Friday, an event where students, faculty, staff and retirees can show their kindness, and appreciation for someone or something. As part of this event, everyone is encouraged to take part in our "Sink our Boat" food drive. Bring a non-perishable food item to the breakfast on Thursday and help fill the lifeboat to the brim for a great cause. MI's donation will recognized as part of the University-wide initiative to Fill-the-Square at Paton College.
Donations are also being accepted for the "Coats for Kids" program. Bring gently used winter clothing such as coats, mitts, scarves and hats for families who need a helping hand as our days get colder.
If you are enrolled as a full-time student in the fall 2011 semester at the Marine Institute, join us in Hampton Hall on Friday at 12 p.m. for your chance to win $1000, $750 or $500 in the Rant like Rick competition. This is MI's first ever Rant like Rick audition so come along and cheer on the students as they vie for their chance to participate in the Rant like Rick finals at MUN on Monday, October 24 at 3:30 p.m.
Finally, put on your dancing shoes on because the MISU will also be hosting a dance party in the MI gymnasium on Friday night. The events span the weekend with a Community Service Learning day on Saturday and a 5 km road race on Sunday, October 23 at 9 a.m.
On Monday, October 24, help us celebrate MI Day by wearing your MI swag. MI day begins with another "Minute to Win It Challenge" followed by "Around the World in 80 Minutes" at 1 p.m. Travel around the world in 80 minutes without leaving the Marine Institute as MI International challenges you to take a trip through the Marine Institute building in search of answers to our global questions. Prizes will be offered for the most correct answers in the allotted time.
Monday evening at 7 p.m., MI is hosting the "Out of Your Depth Challenge" in Hampton Hall. This team based challenge offers a series of hands on, skill-testing, brain-twisting tasks that pit you against other teams for the top prize.
To round out the week, Tuesday, October 25 will feature the Health Challenge. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., MUN is opening the Field House up to everyone who can, walk, run, or roll around the track to set a MUN record for the greatest distance we can travel on the track as a MUN community.
Also, at 1 p.m., we need thousands of people to meet at the Field House to STAND ON ONE FOOT. Intrigued? Join us as we attempt to break a Guinness World Record!
During the week's festivities, the Memorial University School of Music plans to pleasantly surprise students, staff and faculty at the Marine Institute with musical interludes. From violin, to drums, horn, saxophone and even the full Chamber Choir - there will be a tune for every taste!
