Watch Clarenville, O'Donel and Eastern Edge Robotics live at international ROV contest

The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) teams from Clarenville High, O’Donel High in Mount Pearl and Easter Edge Robotics will compete at the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) 10th Annual International Underwater Robotics Competition in Houston, Texas on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18

The competition is taking place at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at NASA Johnson Space Center and includes competing teams from across the world. The event is being webcast live, providing an opportunity for supporters to watch Clarenviile, O’Donel and Eastern Edge Robotics take part in the competition.

Clarenville began competing today at 12 p.m. and take to action again at 4:30 p.m. O’Donel and Eastern Edge Robotics bring their ROVs into competition at 3:30 p.m. today. On Saturday, June 18, O’Donel and Eastern Edge Robots both begin competing at 11:30 a.m.

The live webcast of the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) 10th Annual International Underwater Robotics Competition can be watched at http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/mate_stream.php. The Internet streaming is sponsored by NASA Robotics Alliance Project.

Clarenville and O’Donel qualified for the event by claiming first and second place respectively at the Marine Institute’s regional MATE ROV high school competition in May. The Eastern Edge Robots team has been representing the province of Newfoundland and Labrador at international remotely operated vehicle events since 2003. The team consists of students from the Marine Institute and Memorial University’s Faculties of Engineering and Science. The team is guided by Dwight Howse, head of the Marine Institute’s School of Ocean Technology.
