The Marine Institute held its annual Spring Scholarship Ceremony today
Thanks to the generosity of local and national businesses, organizations and individuals, 24 students were awarded over $11,000 for their academic achievements and leadership skills.
Glenn Blackwood, executive director of the Marine Institute, was on hand to address and congratulate the students. "On behalf of the entire MI community, we are honored to be able to offer these scholarships today," he said. "We are proud to contribute to the academic success of these exceptional students. Their demonstrated excellence here today is evidence of a productive and promising future."
Students celebrated their educational accomplishments with their families, MI representatives and numerous individual, organizational and corporate award donors.
Blackwood says he is extremely pleased with the expansion of the scholarship program stating that at the fall presentation, 15 new entrance scholarships and three new scholarships for returning students were announced. "Without our donors, this ceremony would not be possible," added Mr. Blackwood. "We have established relationships with very successful organizations, all of whom are keen to help us develop the next generation of leaders in the oceans industries. Your commitment to this program is outstanding and we thank you."
In total, 25 scholarships were awarded.
