Welcome to the Fall 2024 semester at the Marine Institute! This year, MI is celebrating an exciting milestone; 60 years of leading maritime education, industry engagement and innovation.
“Whether you’re coming to MI for the first time or are a returning student, we’re excited to have you as a part of the MI community,” said Dr. Paul Brett, Vice-President (Marine Institute).
“The wonderful faculty and staff who contribute to making MI a special place is looking forward to welcoming all of our students to campus are here to help in the transition to the new semester.”
For first-year diploma and certificate students, orientation activities take place Tuesday, September 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers and representatives from the MI Student Union and MI staff will be in the main lobby ready to welcome all new students to campus.

From 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, MI will be hosting a resource fair so students can learn more about the available resources on campus. There will also be snacks, coffee and a door prize so be sure to stop by!
For parents and supporters of first-year students, orientation takes place Monday, September 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is an informative opportunity to tour campus and learn about our extensive supports for first-year students.

Orientation for Graduate students is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the Conference Centre. More information can be found on the MI Start-Up page.
MI offers comprehensive supports and services for students. The Student Support department provides guidance on accessibility services and mental health and counselling services.
Students are also free to use the MI gymnasium for fitness and recreation activities. Every day there are intramural sports starting at noon. More information and the registration form can be found here.

On September 10, MI will hold the Merchant Navy Veterans Day Ceremony at the Merchant Navy memorial at 11:00 a.m. All students are encouraged to attend.
